Latency Society..
(views are not completely mine)
Before we start, let's have a quick look on the facts below -
-> Out of people we have around, 40% of them are in Depression..
-> Globally in a year, over 8 lakh + people commit suicide including around 1.3 lakh of Indians (being 17% i.e highest)..
-> Suicide is the number 1 reason for the people dieing in 13 - 17 years..
-> Out of all the students in a school, 4% of them are under depression..
These totally specify the topic we will be throwing light on here..
Today, randomly any person, just because she/he is sad, self proclaims to be suffering from 'Depression'.. If they are not getting what they want from life, or are unable to stand on expectations of the society around, one keeps on taking pressure and finally accepts that they are under Depression, which according to me is the biggest blunder they make on instant..
The problem does not lie in the person suffering but definitely in the society.. We all together have not accepted the fact that anybody can be the next victim.. Why it is always men working day and night are on the preferably likely to suffer from it?? Why not teenagers or women??
The world we got in front of us is constantly under pressure.. We are continously producing and consuming on a humungous scale to earn our living.. And amidst these hectic and tiring days, can't our brain tend to focus on the other side of life (working so hard still having heavy bucket list)?? Yes it is normal for human brain to emphasize on darker side more than brighter side, so what if someone, feeling sort of Depression cannot go to a Psychiatrist to consult regarding their health?? Is it difficult to reach them or them to reach you?? We see that profession with such leer vision that the person does not want to visit them but prefers keep taking the load instead..
But this is not the situation where we should focus more.. Rather, the main issue existing is more disturbing..
More Than Half Of People Suffering From Depression Do Not Know Only That They Are Suffering From It (I just think what can be worse than this).. This Depression thingy is so lamentable that we usually think 'I am not going through this' and keep doing the things as we did which is why we are in it.. We quietly keep suffering unknowingly which worsens the condition more.. May the symptoms below help you to clarify yourself whether you are in it or not (that does not mean if you feel any one out of those, you are in/out of Depression, but you may fall into it soon)..
Symptoms -
-> Feeling Lonely - Having every one around still lacking a shoulder to put your head onto..
-> Regretting - Things did not work out as planned; having a guilt that 'It could have been better'..
-> Sleep Cycle ruined - No perfect time to sleep; sometimes sleeping more, sometimes no sleep at all..
-> Interest Lost - Tasks which we loved doing are no more pleasurable..
-> Feeling Worthless..
If anyone around is feeling low, make sure you are there for her/him being their support system.. Try to take out the person at the initial stage itself.. If one's feeling of low-ness is not alarming our senses, then what are we waiting for?? If not now, then when??
We have come across this word several times but hardly thought of contributing to it.. The word 'Change'.. We demand 'Change' and also wait for someone else to bring it for us (claps).. This society will not bring the 'Change' but you, we and the future generation will.. Remember caste system?? If we compare today's scenario with that of 50 years ago, people took it so seriously back then and see what is it today, (almost) nothing.. We have to take the responsibility of eradicating this 'disease'.. We being a little aware of what this thing is, then only after 10 - 20 years we will have a world without Depressed people..
We are Indians built up under only 'school to tuition to college to government job' lifestyle where we do not open with our parents that easily.. We feel we sharing our problems will act as one more out of 100s of burden on them.. If we are waiting for our friends or people close to us (of our age mostly) to help us getting out of this, then quit waiting folks.. They are of your age only.. But sharing with your parents will not make you feel like that, rather their experience will help you recover faster..
And for parents reading this, stop comparing and pressurising your child.. They are doing their job superbly (no issues if not in front of you).. They do notice the efforts you put on them, they value it more than anything.. We are different because we got our own qualities to sharpen.. Children are like an empty canvas, the way you paint them, the way society shades them, is the way they appear which makes everyone unique..
And yes, did anyone tell you that Depression depends on how much hardships you are facing?? You sure you want to agree to it?? Guys Depression does not depend on hardships you are going through, actually, it is dimensional.. If one finds the hole not too deep, that doesn't mean nobody else will get stuck in it.. A poor person is happy than rich kids (you can take Sushant's example if you want).. People are so densed under pressure that they only accumulate the heat and never vent out.. You should become their Ventilator.. I mean, if you are actually helping a person to vent out its built up unnecessary pressure, what's wrong??
Sorry consuming much of your time on the negative part only, let us see some ways to get out of Depression if one is in it (or do some of these to never fall in it)..
-> Accept - Gulp the fact that 'I am sad', 'I am under pressure' in.. This thing will let you know what could be the varied ways to release that pressure..
-> Discuss - Do not try to copy 'Their' lifestyle just because it fascinates you.. You have your own wounds to heal and own bliss to enjoy.. Stop if you are living 'Their' life as you..
-> Doing fun things - Do the tasks which made you feel happy earlier.. This rejoices your not - good mood faster..
-> Goal Setting - Start with putting Short Term Goals on the board and achieve is soon.. After achieving, reward yourself with anything you like..
-> Nature - Spend sometime with Nature.. Stand in your gallery and feel the fresh air for few minutes, walk for a while in your locality.. Best way to benefit your health too..
We are so busy climbing bridges of Expectations, that we often forget to enjoy the present moment.. We forget there are so many other unexplored things where something matches our interest which we have no clue about.. Go find them when free (Lockdown was that 'free time') and live life to the fullest..
Remember guys, Depression is a phase not something infinite.. We can get out of it if we want or else stay until our destiny takes us away..
